Adelaide’s Brink Productions, in association with the Adelaide Festival Centre, will bring Nobel Laureate Patrick White’s short story Down at the Dump, from his 1964 collection The Burnt Ones, to the stage in a world premiere from 10-24 October 2015 in the Space Theatre.

Adapted by Brink Productions as The Aspirations of Daise Morrow the show features The Zephyr Quartet along with some big names from the South Australian theatrical scene including actor Paul Blackwell with designs by Michael Hankin, lighting by Nigel Levings and musical direction by Hilary Kleinig.  New music for the production will be composed by Belinda Gehlert, Emily Tulloch, Jason Thomas, and Hilary Kleinig while the show itself is directed by Brink’s current Artistic Director Chris Drummond.

Of the production Drummond says, “The Aspirations of Daise Morrow is about seizing the day and not letting the bastards grind you down. It’s masterful storytelling, filled with magic and wonder.”

White’s original short story centres on the intertwining drama of suburban families while Brink’s adaptation places the drama in a non-traditional theatrical setting that will see the cast performing in and around the audience on the Space Theatre floor, accompanied by live music.

Drummond continues, “We will move the audience into a world of brilliantly drawn characters, bathed in laughter, music and light. A story of small communities in all their complexity; it’s about fear of outsiders, the unknown and the uninhibited. I think it’s a poignant evocation of the wonders of small beginnings, the complications of compassion and the grace and majesty of love.”
Tickets are available through BASS 131 246 or www.bass.net.au
