It’s cast announcement time! Hayes Theatre Co has been on a roll in its inaugural year as a dedicated home for musicals and cabaret, and if this Blood Brothers announcement is anything to go by, 2015 is going to be just as exciting at the Potts Point theatre.
Blood Brothers, one of the longest running musicals in theatre history, will play for a strictly limited 4 week season from February 6. Enda Markey will produce. A provocative, heartbreaking and hilarious musical, it tells the tale of Mrs Johnstone – who, when her husband walks out on her, agrees to give one of her twin babies away.
Mickey and Edward, those twins, grow up streets apart, becoming best friends but never knowing the truth of their heritage. The prophecy that twins who are separated at birth will die on the day they find out their heritage brings this stunningly crafted musical to its shattering but inevitable conclusion.
The cast features: Helen Dallimore (Tartuffe, Legally Blonde) as Mrs Johnstone, Bobby Fox (Jersey Boys) as Mickey, Blake Bowden (South Pacific) as Edward, Michael Cormick (Phantom of the Opera) as Narrator, Bronwyn Mulcahy (Atomic) as Mrs Lyons, Phillip Lowe as Mr Lyons, Christy Sullivan as Linda, Jamie Kristian as Sammy, and Erin James as Donna Marie.
“Blood Brothers is one of the best musicals ever written,” said producer Enda Markey.
“Willy Russell’s writing is, in turn, funny and heartbreakingly sad and I am thrilled to have gathered such an incredible team of actors and creatives to bring his beautifully written characters, and the wonderful songs, to life.”
The London production of Blood Brothers ran for more than 24 years, winning every British “Best Musical” award along the way. It is one of only three musicals in history to play for more than 10,000 performances – the other two are Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera.
Tickets are now on sale, and if the history of the Hayes is anything to go by, this is going to sell fast – so book early! Visit hayestheatre.com.au or bloodbrothersthemusical.com.au to find out more and to get those tickets.
