Beautiful show bound for Brisbane

It’s about one moment. It’s about hitting the wall and having to make a choice, or take a stand, or turn around and go back.

Written by Tony Award-winning composer Jason Robert Brown, Songs For A New World, is a dynamic and gripping contemporary musical about the moment of decision, the point at which anyone transitions from the old to the new.

Jason Robert Brown has been hailed as one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since Stephen Sondheim, and his extraordinary, jubilant theatre music has been heard all over the world. In Songs For A New World, Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge 57 storeys above Fifth Avenue to meet an array of characters from disillusioned housewives and warring couples to Mrs Santa Claus and Christopher Columbus. These are the stories and characters of today; the songs for a new world.

Featuring the powerhouse talents of Queensland’s top music theatre performers Angela Harding, Luke Kennedy, Naomi Price and Luke Venables under the direction of Queensland’s undisputed king of musical theatre Tim O’Connor, this diverse and exquisitely crafted musical is the pathway into theatre for the next generation of audiences.

“I just knew we had to program this show for our 25th year,” O’Connor said.

“These are without a doubt the best performers in Queensland right now and it will be electrifying to see them all onstage together.”

The show opens at the Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts on May 12. Bookings: (07) 3872 9000.
