Bangarra Dance Theatre opens expression of interest applications for Indigenous Creatives ahead of Dance Clan 2024

Bangarra Dance Theatre is excited to announce that Expression of Interest applications for Dance Clan 2024 are now open.

Following a wildly successful return to the calendar in 2023, Dance Clan will continue in 2024 with the aim of championing the next generation of Indigenous storytellers by providing them with the opportunity to collaborate with Bangarra artists on a season of short original dance works.

Whether emerging or mid-career, Bangarra are inviting Indigenous designers specialising in costume, set and lighting, to apply for the project. Successful applicants will collaborate with emerging choreographers while being mentored by experienced industry professionals. New works will premiere at Bangarra’s Studio Theatre on Gadigal Country in December 2024.

As a past participant in Dance Clan herself, Bangarra’s Artistic Director, Frances Rings said, “Dance Clan is designed to cultivate the ground for our next generation of emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Storytellers. This program of new creative works has seen various presentations of cultural and contemporary new expressions thrive, expanding our distinctive dance lexicon and its ongoing impression on the wider artistic ecology.”

This opportunity aligns with Bangarra’s passion to foster First Nations creatives on, and off, the stage.

Creatives will be paid a commission fee in instalments across the delivery of the work.

More information on how to apply is available here. Applications will close on Monday 25th March 2024.
