The internet is all abuzz today with reports that the original creative team behind Back to the Future are in preliminary talks to create a musical version.
According to Deadline.com where the story originally broke:
(Robert) Zemeckis is in early talks with his co-writer Bob Gale and the film’s composer Alan Silvestri to explore a stage transfer.
‘Back To The Future’ Heading To Broadway?
I wouldn’t be surprised if Huey Lewis, of Huey Lewis and the News fame, is also included in the project having written hits The Power of Love and Back in Time for the movie. Lewis also performed the songs on the soundtrack and had a small cameao role as the band audition judge.
The original movie, released in 1985, made up part of a trilogy released over 5 years and grossed nearly US$1 billion at the Box Office.
If the project was to go ahead it would be in good company with a recent spate of musicials being created out of movies: Ghost, Spiderman, Shrek, The Lion King, just to name a few.
