Australian Brandenburg Orchestra gives new life to epic Vivaldi masterpieces for ‘Gloria & The Four Seasons’

The Australian Brandenburg Orchestra will boldly interpret the timeless masterpieces of virtuoso composer Antonio Vivaldi for the second concert series of 2023, Gloria & The Four Seasons. Featuring two of the most popular pillars in the Baroque repertoire, the program will highlight Brandenburg’s celebrated Concertmaster Shaun Lee-Chen, as well as the acclaimed Brandenburg Choir. The concerts will take place at Sydney’s City Recital Hall from 28 April – 5 May, Parramatta’s Riverside Theatres on 6 May, and Melbourne Recital Centre from 11 – 14 May.

The Brandenburg will ignite two of Vivalid’s greatest works, with stage direction by the visionary Yaron Lifschitz, Artistic Director of Circa, and lighting design by Trent Suidgeest to reflect the moods, textures and colours of the composer’s extraordinary music. Taking centre stage as the soloist in The Four Seasons, Concertmaster Shaun Lee-Chen will reveal his stunning sound and consummate command of the violin. For the second half of the program, the vibrant Gloria led by Paul Dyer will feature the sublime vocals of the much loved Brandenburg Choir, with the musicians performing within an ethereal light installation.

Co-founder and Artistic Director Paul Dyer:

We are thrilled to be working with the amazing creatives Yaron Lifschitz and Trent Suidgeest, who, along with the Brandenburg musicians and choir, will push these two Vivaldi master works beyond the concert hall into a moving theatrical experience.

Performing with the Brandenburg Choir in the second half of the program, participant of Brandenburg’s Mentorship Program, Michael Burden will feature as the Alto soloist. The Mentorship Program fosters the next generation of Early Music musicians through education and career development opportunities. From private lessons with Paul Dyer to access to rehearsals, research facilities and senior members of the orchestra, the program looks to nurture a culture of appreciation for early music in aspiring young musical minds.

Michael Burden:

I’m so excited to be debuting as a soloist with Brandenburg in Gloria & The Four Seasons. The Brandenburg Choir has been such a supportive and encouraging community for me, and I feel so privileged to be able to share that joyful sense of community with you, our audience!
