It has been announced that Australian performer Jamie Ward will take over the role of Marius in Les Miserables at London’s Queen’s Theatre in the West End. This is Jamie’s West End stage debut, and he’ll be in the role until mid-June 2013.
Australian audiences will remember Jamie, a WAAPA graduate from Perth, for his roles in Sydney Theatre Company’s Spring Awakening (Hanschen), and Gordon Frost’s Dr Zhivago (Young Yurii Zhivago). He has also appeared with the Australian Opera Company.
During his time at WAAPA, he performed in Ragtime, Company, King Arthur, and Oliver!.
Jamie was a Rob Guest Endowment Finalist in 2011, and in an interview with AussieTheatre in the lead-up to the Endowment concert, he told us that if he could play any role, regardless of age or gender, he would choose Marius – it looks like that dream is coming true!
Chookas, Jamie! Australia wishes you all the best on your West End journey.
