ARTSONG NSW announce 2013 Concert Series

ARTSONG NSW, an organisation dedicated to presenting classical song recitals have announced their 2013 series, featuring some of Australia’s most beloved opera stars including Teddy Tahu Rhodes and Emma Matthews.

The concerts will be performed in North Sydney’s intimate Independent Theatre, the series offers a unique opportunity to catch these great singers up close and personal at only a fraction of the cost of a ticket to a full opera production.

First up is The Top 20 Classical Art Songs on Sunday 2 June. With Lorina Gore, Tobias Cole, Sam-Roberts Smith and Samuel Dundas, the concert features a program full of songs you probably already know. From Brahms’ Lullaby to Dvorak’s Songs my mother taught me and Danny Boy, it’s a concert you can walk into the theatre humming.

The second is A concert to celebrate the memory of one of Australia’s greatest sopranos Amanda Thane OAM on Sunday 21 July. Amanda Thane was one of the leading ladies of Opera Australia throughout the 1980s and 90s and was the brain behind ARTSONG NSW. Headlined by coloratura superstar Emma Matthews, the concert also features Dominica Matthews, Glen Winslade, Michael Honeyman and David Parkin.

Thirdly is An Afternoon with Teddy Tahu Rhodes on Sunday 11 August. Fresh from a season at New York’s Metropolitan Opera playing Escamillo in Carmen, Australia’s favourite bass-baritone will be performing an exclusive, intimate recital before taking to the stage in the return season of South Pacific.

Finally is Schubert’s ‘Schwanengesang’ or Swan Song on Sunday 15 September. This collection of songs completed just before Schubert’s early death will be performed by tenor Robert Macfarlane accompanied by pianist John Martin.
