Are you a budding playwright? Griffin Theatre wants to give you $10,000

It's that time of the year again! Griffin Theatre Company is now accepting submissions for the 2013 Griffin Award, an annual prize worth $10,000 offered for an outstanding new Australian play.

Griffin Theatre's incoming Artistic Director Lee Lewis is keenly aware of the significance of this award, which has supported and highlighted Australian writers since 1998 (including Debra Oswald, Brendan Cowell and Rick Viede), and will oversee the award's sixteenth year with a view to discovering a new work with an authentic, inventive and contemporary voice.

“It is an extraordinary chance for the company to see the breadth and depth of Australian writing. Each year it gives us a snapshot of how our writers are looking at the world and allows us to find great, fresh, immediate and urgent plays to bring to our audience.”

All submissions of original plays or performance texts will be assessed by a panel of industry leaders to nominate a shortlist. In addition to the main award, all shortlisted playwrights receive $1,000 each to further help their development and recognise their efforts.
