Global Creatures’ King Kong the Musical, Australia’s latest in a string of world premiere musicals, begins another workshop series in Sydney next week, ahead of an official launch on October 7.
With auditions still taking place for several positions within the company, it seems the producers and creative team are leaving no stone unturned in order to assemble the best possible cast for this brand new production.
While it has been previously announced that Marius de Vries will be composing some music for the show as well as arranging existing period pieces, rumours have been circulating that popular singer/songwriter Sarah McLachlan will also be writing a piece for the show after she alluded to the project on her facebook page:
“I am writing a song for the new King Kong musical that debuts jan 2013 xoS” Sarah McLachlan
Despite directing AussieTheatre’s attention to an article published on the blog Speakeasy, which mentions McLachlan’s possible involvement, Global Creatures have declined to comment on the rumour saying only that “all will be revealed October 7”.
It is understood that a cast announcement will take place on this day and some of the material from the show will be performed at the launch.
King Kong is set to open at the Regent Theatre in June 2013, and will play exclusively in Melbourne. The production is slated to tour internationally, but no details have been released at this stage.
