Adelaide Guitar Festival Strums Up International Interest

Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition presented by Adelaide Festival Centre’s Adelaide Guitar Festival is now open to entrants from around the world for the 2025 online audition round.

Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition is a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions. The federation is currently comprised of over 110 international musical competitions and other institutions serving young musicians, based in Geneva, the federation is a member of the International Music Council of UNESCO.

Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition is the most prestigious guitar competition in the southern hemisphere and has provided career launching opportunities for 11 incredible young guitarists, since it began as part of Adelaide Guitar Festival in 2010.

Adelaide International Guitar Competition has attracted up-and-coming artists from across the globe and welcomed them to Australia’s UNESCO City of Music, Adelaide. Past winners have hailed from Romania, Ukraine, Italy, Australia and Bulgaria. Recent recipients of the award include 2024 winner Young Taek Jo from South Korea, 2023 winner Deion Cho from South Korea and 2022 winner Connor Whyte from South Australia.

The prize pool for the 2025 winner includes AUD$10,000 prize money, a coveted Jim Redgate guitar valued at AUD$23,000, and an invitation to perform at a future Adelaide Guitar Festival.

Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition applications are now open and will close Wednesday 2 April 2025. The competition final will be held on Sunday 14 September 2025 during Adelaide Guitar Festival.

2025 marks 15 years since the inception of Adelaide Guitar Festival’s Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition. We are extremely proud to welcome the world’s best up and coming classical guitarists every year to Adelaide to take part in the Adelaide International Classical Guitar Competition and to introduce the next generation of stars to our Adelaide Guitar Festival audience.

In 2025, the set pieces will include new work written especially for Adelaide Guitar Festival from South Australian composer Anne Cawrse.
