Adelaide Cabaret Festival starts with a BANG!

Celebrations will reach galactic heights as the 2011 Adelaide Cabaret Festival begins with a bang tonight!

Celebrations will reach galactic heights as the 2011 Adelaide Cabaret Festival begins with a bang tonight!

The opening weekend will blast off tonight with a star studded line-up of glamorous Cabaret performers walking the red carpet to the sold out Variety Gala Performance sponsored by Adelaide BMW which is being presented by the incomparable Simon Burke. The line-up is more impressive than ever for Artistic Director David Campbell and Associate Producer Lisa Campbell’s final year.

AussieTheatre.com will be reviewing over 20 of the events at this year’s Festival. Stay tuned to see reviews for Tim Draxl, Olivia Newton-John, Amy Housewine, Alexis Fishman, Rhonda Burchmore and countless other stars of the cabaret scene.

The Adelaide Festival Centre venues will be bursting at the seams and undoubtedly the highlight of the opening weekend is this year’s Headliner multi-award winning recording artist and Australian icon Olivia Newton-John, in her only Australian performances this year. Olivia will perform all the hits that have spanned her career, backed by the Adelaide Art Orchestra. You’ll be hopelessly devoted to Olivia after this performance! Tickets are still available but selling quickly, so don’t miss out!

Artistic Director of the Adelaide Cabaret Festival David Campbell says, “Tickets sales are rocketing and the Festival is currently 3% up on the box office at the same time last year with tickets for all performances selling really well across the Festival. One of the new trends this year is there is a huge increase in people buying a package – 18% of patrons have purchased tickets to four or more shows which demonstrates that patrons want the whole festival experience. The Cabaret Festival definitely delivers bang for your buck.”

50 international artists from the USA, UK, and Canada, as well as the cream of the Cabaret crop in Australia, with 224 Australian artists, 125 of those being South Australian will feature at the Festival this year.

David says “Lisa and I can’t wait to get this party started; this Festival is going to be a special one as it’s our final festival before we hand the reins to Kate Ceberano.  This year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival will truly deliver something out of this world. We have chart toppers, Tony winners and multiple Grammy award winning songwriters, along with the newest up and coming artists from all over the world. We look forward to seeing you at the Festival Centre and celebrating with us.”

Give yourself a gift this Queen’s Birthday long weekend, and get down to the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, come and see a couple of shows, soak up the Festival’s warm winter atmosphere in between – with great food, wine and free entertainment too! Let us warm you up at the 2011 Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
