9th Australian Cabaret Showcase: Grand Finalists Announced

If you are in Sydney tonight (Friday 23 December) make sure you head on down to watch the grand final of this year’s Australian Cabaret Showcase! The 10 finalists have been confirmed, the stage is set and the performers are ready to knock your socks off!

For the first time this year, the 9th Annual Australian Cabaret Showcase held heats in Sydney, Melbourne and Gosford to find the 10 Finalists for tonight’s 2011 Grand Final.

After some tough competition selections were made, and this year’s talented finalists include:

From The NSW Central Coast heats Tamara Abbott, Adam Forsythe and Madeleine Swan.
The winner of the Melbourne heat Angela Harding
And from Sydney heats Tommy Bradson, Maryann Wright, Jessica Zamprogno, Kristina McNamara, Jessica O’Donoghue and Bryce Halliday. 

Each performer was asked to write and perform an eight minute set with interlinking dialogue and all will now be asked to repeat their performance at tonight’s Grand Final in Sydney, to be held at Sydney’s acclaimed live music venue Notes.

The Executive Producer of the annual event, also General Manager of The New York Musical Theatre Festival Jeremy Youett said, “The talent at this year’s event across all 3 cities has been exceptional and this year’s finalists are a diverse and interesting array of some of Australia’s best up and coming new talent! It’s going to be a great night of entertainment and a difficult decision for the judges!”

The Australian Cabaret Showcase has built a reputation for the high standard of its performers and as a springboard onto Australia’s professional theatrical stages. Past winners have gone on to become established professional entertainers in Musicals, Cabaret, Theatre and Live Music and include James Millar, Nick Christo, Elenoa Rokobaro, Tom Sharah, Sheridan Harbridge (pictured) and Toby Francis.

The winner of this year’s event will win:

  • A fully produced Australian tour of their original solo show
  • An invitation to perform at some of Australia’s biggest music festivals including The Adelaide Cabaret Festival, The Melbourne Cabaret Festival, The inaugural Ballarat Cabaret Festival and The Noosa Long Weekend Festival.
  • They will also received a $1000 cash prize courtesy of The Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation,
  • A photographic and design package courtesy of Blueprint Studios
  • A Sydney season produced by Your Management.

Judges at this year’s Grand Final include Noosa Long Weekend Festival Artistic Director Ian Mackellar, Ron Dobell of The Ron and Margaret Dobell Foundation, Artistic Director of The Ballarat Cabaret Festival Graeme Russell and Sydney agent Les Solomon.
