Nominations for the 2014 Tony Awards were announced on Tuesday morning in the USA and AussieTheatre’s Craig Dalglish was in New York for the festivities…
There was great excitement as I joined the cue at the Tktx tickets booth in Times Square this morning.
Aside from the usual hustle and bustle from theatre goers clamouring for tickets to their favourite Broadway shows, the more focussed Tony Award discussion permeated the air.
Cries of “I knew she would be nominated” or “I can’t believe that show wasn’t nominated” flew through the air as patrons discussed the nominations with alacrity as they waited to purchase their tickets.
The 68th Annual Antoinette Perry ‘Tony’ Awards features nominees in 26 categories from a pool of shows performed in any of the 40 eligible Broadway Theatres in 2013/2014.
As is customary, the official awards ceremony will take place at Radio City Music Hall, and the date for this year’s event is Sunday June 8 at 8pm. As usual, the Tony’s broadcast falls on the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend in Australia – (from 10am on June 9, Australian Eastern Time) – and any crossover AFL/Theatre fans should still be able to view the AFL’s Melbourne v Collingwood clash at the MCG after the awards are aired in Australia!
