2012 Anywhere Theatre Festival – Call for Registrations, Brisbane

One of the biggest problems facing theatre practitioners today is having enough venues (and the money to pay for them!). What if we took away that problem? The 2012 Anywhere Theatre Festival in Brisbane has done just that, but time is running out for all you struggling thespians and cabaret artists eager to get onto the ‘stage’ so to speak. Submissions for the festival close at the end of this month, so start tap-tap-tapping away at your keyboards to get those applications in before it’s too late.

The premise is quite simple, the performance has to take place anywhere BUT a theatre – a boxing ring in Newstead, a park in Yeronga, a backyard in Fairfield, a house in West End, a community hall in Annerley, a patch of grass in Southbank, or even streaming online.

Festival director Paul Osuch says the unique thing about the 2012 Anywhere Theatre Festival is that “Performers can be part of the festival while performing anywhere globally and have an audience here in Brisbane participating online,” said Paul. “That makes this a great way for international performers to be part of the festival and for Brisbane audiences to see interstate and international performances without having to step away from their computer… or iPhone.”

A free workshop for those interested in participating in the festival or wanting to create performance opportunities anywhere will be held on the Sunshine Coast (Maroochy Arts and Ecology Centre, Palm Drive, Tanawha) on the 3rd of February and run from 9-11am. Topics covered will include choosing a text, public liability,venue scouting, ticket pricing, operating a  box office anywhere, technical considerations, funding options, plus you will receive a free online 60 page guide of tips and tricks (also available as a hard copy for $10).

In its second year, the 2012 Anywhere Theatre Festival is open to local and international performers and companies from theatre, circus, music, cabaret, opera, dance, interdisplinary arts and experimental works.

The registration deadline for the 2012 Anywhere Theatre Festival is January 31st, but participants of the workshop will have the option to register interest at the workshop which is held three days after the deadline.
