10 Days to go until Anna O’Byrne Brings Becoming Eliza to Melbourne

There are just ten days until acclaimed musical theatre star Anna O’Byrne brings her celebrated one-woman show Becoming Eliza to Melbourne’s Comedy Theatre for ONE PERFORMANCE ONLY on Saturday, 26th August.

In 2016, Melbourne’s own, Anna O’Byrne, was handpicked by Julie Andrews herself to star as Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady. Anna’s captivating performance was met with enormous praise and led her to win a prestigious Helpmann Award.

In Becoming Eliza, Anna O’Byrne reflects on her unique experience. She shares stories about working intimately with an internationally adored icon and what it is to share a role, created sixty years apart, as well as the lessons she learned from both Dame Julie and Eliza.

This enchanting concert evening features iconic songs from beloved musicals on stage and screen, including “My Favourite Things”, “In My Own Little Corner”, and “I Could Have Danced All Night”, from classic movies and musicals including Camelot, Mary Poppins, Victor/Victoria and, of course, My Fair Lady.

Limelight:

Becoming Eliza premiered at Sydney Opera House in 2022 and has been touring the country since, playing to outstanding acclaim with critics lauding Anna’s performance as “charming and very satisfying” (Adelaide Advertiser), and “a ‘loverly’ production, which beguiles with its honesty and gorgeous vocals.

Anna O’Byrne is this generation’s classic leading lady, who most recently starred in Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. O’Byrne is best known for her role as Christine Daaé in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, and the original Australian production of its sequel Love Never Dies, which was released on DVD, for which she was nominated for a Green Room Award, as well as the English National Opera’s Sweeney Todd and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman in White.

Becoming Eliza will also play at Geelong Arts Centre on 22 November.
