‘Dorian: The Musical’ is slated for its world premiere this summer, promising to bring a fresh adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s ‘The Picture of Dorian Gray’ to life. The show will run from July 4th to August 10th at the Southwark Playhouse Borough.
Directed by Linnie Reedman with music and lyrics by Joe Evans, the musical explores the rise of Dorian Gray, a young musician whose sudden fame spirals into a perilous indulgence of his darkest desires. The role of Dorian will be portrayed by Alfie Friedman, known for his performances in ‘The Undeclared War’ and ‘The Witches of Eastwick.’ Additional casting details are yet to be released.
‘Dorian: The Musical’ had initially been set for production in 2020 but was postponed due to the pandemic. It briefly reached audiences through streaming in 2021, and this upcoming stage production marks its first full theatrical presentation.
The production team features Aaron Clingham as the musical director, Toby Darvill handling production management and lighting design, Isabella Van Braeckel as the set and costume designer, and Mike Thacker as the sound designer. Carter Dixon McGill is managing the show’s general production aspects.
This world premiere represents a significant cultural event, offering a contemporary twist on a literary classic through the dynamic medium of musical theatre. Fans of Wilde’s work and new audiences alike will find something to anticipate in this compelling new production.
