Watch the London Shakespeare Globe’s production of MACBETH now

London Shakespeare’s Globe is an Elizabethan playhouse on the south bank of the river Thames. It is the home by which William Shakespeare wrote his plays. The original theatre was built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. The modern Globe Theatre is an academic approximation based on available evidence of the 1599 and 1614 buildings.

When three witches tell Macbeth that he is destined to occupy the throne of Scotland, he and his wife choose to become the instruments of their fate and to kill the first man standing in their path, the virtuous King Duncan. But to maintain his position, Macbeth must keep on killing – first Banquo, his old comrade-in-arms; then, as the atmosphere of guilt and paranoia thickens, anyone who seems to threaten his tyrant’s crown.

A psychological thriller examining the dangers of political ambition, Macbeth is a gripping, full-scale 90 minute performance in the Globe Theatre, with no interval. Deutsche Bank has supported an annual Playing Shakespeare production in the Globe Theatre since 2007.The 90-minute production, created especially for a schools audience, is complemented with free workshops and online activities.
