Todrick Hall Set to Star as Donkey in ‘Shrek the Musical’ at Eventim Apollo

Todrick Hall, the versatile American performer, is slated to return to the London stage in the role of Donkey in ‘Shrek the Musical.’ The show will run at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith, starting July 19, 2024, for a six-week engagement.

Hall, who initially gained fame on ‘American Idol’ and later as a judge on ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ joins the cast following his role in ‘Burlesque’ at the Manchester Opera House this June. His notable stage work includes performances in ‘The Color Purple,’ ‘Memphis,’ ‘Waitress,’ and ‘Kinky Boots’ on Broadway, as well as ‘Chicago’ in both New York and London.

‘Shrek the Musical,’ which will move to Hammersmith following its recent tour, also stars Antony Lawrence as Shrek, Joanne Clifton as Princess Fiona, James Gillan as Lord Farquaad, and Cherece Richards as Dragon. The musical, adapted from the Oscar-winning DreamWorks animation, features a book by David Lindsay-Abaire and music by Jeanine Tesori. It opened on Broadway in 2008, earning eight Tony nominations and winning Best Costume Design. The original production in London’s West End garnered four Olivier Award nominations in 2012, with Nigel Harman winning Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Lord Farquaad.

The revival is produced by Mark Goucher, Matthew Gale, and Gavin Kalin. The creative team includes director and choreographer Nick Winston, co-director Sam Holmes, set and costume designer Philip Witcomb, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, sound designer Ben Harrison, casting director Jim Arnold, projection designer Nina Dunn, and puppet designer Jimmy Grimes.
