Ticket Sales Soar as Leslie Odom Jr. Prepares Broadway Return to Hamilton

Broadway audiences have snapped up every available seat for Leslie Odom Jr.’s limited engagement as Aaron Burr in Hamilton, sending ticket demand skyrocketing. The Tony-winning star begins performances at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on 9 September, with the run already extended through 26 November to accommodate the surge of interest.

The engagement coincides with the landmark musical’s tenth-anniversary celebrations: Hamilton officially opened on 6 August 2015 after a month of previews, transforming Lin-Manuel Miranda’s blend of hip-hop and history into a global phenomenon. Odom originated Burr in the original cast, earning a 2016 Tony Award before departing that July. His return marks the first time he has revisited the role that propelled him to stardom.

Ticketing platforms such as Broadway Direct, TodayTix and Broadway.com reported complete sell-outs within hours of seats going on sale, underscoring the enduring pull of both Odom and the production. The unprecedented demand has already sparked speculation that additional performances or special events may be announced as anniversary festivities unfold.

Odom’s stage comeback caps a prolific decade for the performer, who has built a résumé spanning film (Glass Onion, Harriet), television (Abbott Elementary), and, most recently, a Tony-nominated appearance in the 2023 Broadway revival of Purlie Victorious. Fans and industry observers are eager to see how his evolved perspective informs his portrayal of Burr, an ambitious antagonist whose rivalry with Alexander Hamilton drives the musical’s narrative arc.

Producer Jeffrey Seller, whose credits include Rent, Avenue Q and the current revival of Sweeney Todd, is leveraging the anniversary to spotlight Hamilton’s sustained box-office strength. His new memoir, Theater Kid, recounts a career that has seen him orchestrate multiple era-defining hits. Odom’s brief but highly anticipated return, Seller notes, offers theatregoers a rare “full-circle” moment in Hamilton history while reaffirming the show’s remarkable staying power.
