The Phantom of the Opera Announces New West End Casting

The Phantom of the Opera has unveiled its new West End cast set to take the stage at His Majesty’s Theatre.

Dean Chisnall, recently seen as Jean Valjean in Les Misérables, will assume the iconic role of the Phantom. Joining him are Joanna Ampil, known for her role in Miss Saigon, as Carlotta Giudicelli, Martin Ball (Beauty and the Beast) as Monsieur Firmin, Helen Hobson (Come From Away) as Madame Giry, and newcomer Millie Lyon making her West End debut as Meg Giry.

In a social media post, Ampil expressed her excitement, calling her role in The Phantom of the Opera a “huge tick off my bucket list.” She praised the opportunity to play Carlotta Giudicelli and work alongside seasoned theatre professionals.

Lily Kerhoas continues as Christine Daaé, with Joe Griffiths-Brown as Raoul, Adam Linstead as Monsieur André, and David Kristopher-Brown as Ubaldo Piangi. Eve Shanu-Wilson, currently the understudy, will play Christine Daaé at certain performances.

The cast will also feature new members Anya Alindada, Lily Allen-Dodd, George Arvidson, Embla Bishop, David Burilin, Fergus Dale, Emily George, Molly Hall, Will Hawksworth, Nicholas Hepher, Mandy Kwan, Jess Michelmore, and Johnny Randall.

Completing the ensemble are Leonard Cook, Colleen Rose Curran, Michael Colbourne, Hywel Dowsell, Connor Ewing, Serina Faull, Florence Fowler, James Gant, Melanie Gowie, Samuel Haughton, Eilish Harmon-Beglan, Janet Mooney, Tim Morgan, Zoë Soleil Vallée, Jasmine Wallis, and Victoria Ward.

The new cast will begin performances on July 29, 2024.

The production features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart, and additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe. The book is written by Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber, based on Gaston Leroux’s novel “Le Fantôme de l’Opéra.” Orchestrations are by David Cullen and Lloyd Webber, with musical supervision by Simon Lee.

The design team includes Maria Björnson for production design, Matt Kinley for set adaptation, Jill Parker as associate costume designer, Andrew Bridge for lighting design, Warren Letton as associate lighting designer, and Mick Potter for sound design. The original musical staging and choreography by Gillian Lynne have been recreated and adapted by Chrissie Cartwright.

The Phantom of the Opera has also set its Christmas schedule, featuring performances on:

• Tuesday, December 24 at 2:30 PM
• Friday, December 27 at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM
• Saturday, December 28 at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM
• Sunday, December 29 at 2:30 PM
• Monday, December 30 at 7:30 PM
• Tuesday, December 31 at 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM
• Thursday, January 2 at 7:30 PM
• Friday, January 3 at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM
• Saturday, January 4 at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM

There will be no performances on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, or New Year’s Day.
