THE NATIONAL LOTTERY’S BIG NIGHT OF MUSICALS Returns in 2026

THE NATIONAL LOTTERY’S BIG NIGHT OF MUSICALS has unveiled the complete lineup for what is set to be one of the standout theatre events of early 2026. Now in its fifth year, this spectacular celebration of musical theatre will return to Manchester’s AO Arena on Monday 26 January 2026, bringing together a dazzling array of performances from the West End, touring productions and National Lottery-funded arts organisations in one thrilling evening of song, dance and show-stopping numbers.

Celebrated comedian, actor and musical theatre personality Jason Manford is once again at the helm as host, ushering audiences through an evening packed with performances from some of the most popular musicals in the world today. This event has grown into a major fixture on the UK theatrical calendar, uniting artists and audiences to honour the power of live performance and to recognise the vital role that National Lottery funding plays in supporting the performing arts.

THE BIG NIGHT OF MUSICALS is more than just a concert. It is a showcase of the diversity and creativity of musical theatre, and a celebration of the impact that lottery players have had on theatre across the United Kingdom. Over the past 31 years, National Lottery funding has helped deliver more than £1.4 billion to over 29,000 theatre-related projects, enabling productions, theatre restorations, community arts programmes and training initiatives that might otherwise never have reached the stage. The event is therefore both a thank-you and a testament to the enduring value of musical performance.

This year’s lineup features some of the most beloved shows from the West End and beyond. Leading the list is Disney’s THE LION KING, a record-breaking musical classic that continues to enchant audiences with its breathtaking visuals, iconic score and unforgettable characters. Audiences will also witness performances from the new production of Oliver!, the energetic and emotive SUNNY AFTERNOON – THE MUSICAL inspired by the music of The Kinks, and the heart-warming PADDINGTON THE MUSICAL, which brings the beloved literary bear to life on stage.

Another highlight of the night will be a performance from ANNIE, featuring La Voix in the role of Miss Hannigan. La Voix has been celebrated for powerful vocals and stage presence, and this appearance promises to be a show-stopping moment in the evening’s proceedings. In addition, the BIG NIGHT OF MUSICALS will include a special Disney medley, curated to bring together some of the most magical songs from the world of Disney musical theatre, as well as a unique performance featuring a National Lottery-funded choir alongside THE CHOIR OF MAN, creating a memorable fusion of community choral singing and musical theatre.

The lineup also builds on previously announced performances from major musical hits. These include MISS SAIGON, a dramatic and powerful production known for its emotional storytelling and stirring score. Fans of rock-infused musical theatre will be treated to an exclusive performance from JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, featuring Sam Ryder ahead of his West End debut as Jesus, which adds a highly anticipated live moment to the night. Classic comedy musical The Producers will also take the stage, promising laughs and high energy in equal measure.

Further performances will come from WICKED, the green-magic favourite that continues to draw crowds into the world of Elphaba and Glinda with its rich score and spectacular staging. There will also be a feature from I’m Every Woman: The Chaka Khan Musical, with Alexandra Burke taking on the role of the legendary Chaka Khan herself. This vibrant performance celebrates the life and music of the multi-platinum-selling artist.

In total, the show represents an extraordinary range of theatrical styles, eras and storytelling voices, from beloved family favourites to gritty contemporary musicals and rock classics. This kaleidoscope of performances ensures that the evening will hold broad appeal for musical theatre lovers of all ages and tastes, and also highlights the thriving state of musical theatre in the UK.

Tickets for this free event are being made available to National Lottery players as a gesture of thanks for their support of arts funding. Each player may reserve up to four tickets, subject to availability, with proof of purchase of a National Lottery product required on the day. A booking fee applies, but the tickets themselves are offered at no cost in recognition of the crucial role that lottery participation plays in keeping theatre vibrant and accessible.

Beyond the live audience, the BIG NIGHT OF MUSICALS will reach even wider audiences with a broadcast on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in spring 2026, bringing the best moments of the show into homes across the country. Highlights and performances from past years are already available on BBC iPlayer, offering a taste of what viewers can expect from this year’s broadcast.

As anticipation builds for the event on 26 January, excitement continues to grow among theatre fans and performers alike. THE NATIONAL LOTTERY’S BIG NIGHT OF MUSICALS has become a unique platform that not only showcases spectacular talent but also shines a spotlight on the importance of public support in sustaining the arts. With its blend of star performances, beloved shows and meaningful homage to the community that makes it all possible, this year’s edition promises to be the most memorable yet.
