SIX to close on Broadway in January 2027 after record Lena Horne run

SIX, the Broadway musical by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, will play its final performance at the Lena Horne Theatre on Sunday, 3 January 2027. Producers expect the engagement to finish after 2,178 performances, and tickets remain on sale through the closing date. The announcement brings an endpoint to a Broadway run shaped by the pandemic shutdown and distinguished by a venue record.

In the official notice published by Broadway Direct on 27 August 2026, SIX is described as the longest-running production in the history of the Lena Horne Theatre. According to the same notice, it ranks 40th among Broadway’s longest-running shows and seventh among Broadway shows that originated in the United Kingdom. No reason for ending the engagement was provided.

The arithmetic behind the projected final tally comes with a wrinkle. The Internet Broadway Database records 47 previews separately and listed 2,025 performances as of 23 August 2026. People and AussieTheatre’s 18 August report said the production celebrated its 2,000th performance on 17 August, but that milestone does not reconcile neatly with the database total six days later. Broadway Direct does not establish whether the projected 2,178 includes previews, so it is best understood as the producers’ projected total rather than an independently reconciled count.

The production’s route to opening was sharply interrupted. Previews began at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on 13 February 2020, with the official opening scheduled for 12 March. Broadway shut down because of the COVID-19 pandemic that same day, cancelling the planned opening. The dates therefore describe an engagement with a lengthy shutdown in its early history, not a continuous run from the first preview.

SIX eventually opened on 3 October 2021. According to People, it became the first new musical to open on Broadway following the shutdown. The production remained in the same building throughout its engagement, although the Brooks Atkinson Theatre was renamed the Lena Horne Theatre on 1 November 2022.

Broadway Direct lists the current principal company as Khaila Wilcoxon as Catherine of Aragon, Chloe Tucker Caine as Anne Boleyn, Natalie Paris as Jane Seymour, Olivia Donalson as Anna of Cleves, Aimie Atkinson as Katherine Howard and Stephanie Jae Park as Catherine Parr.

The listed alternates are Lauryn Adams, Aryn Bohannon, Maggie Likcani and Aiyana Smash. That roster describes the current company rather than a confirmed final-night line-up. The performers who will constitute the complete company on 3 January have not been announced.

People reports that Atkinson is currently scheduled through 31 October 2026 and Paris through 13 December. Their replacements have not been identified. Caine and Park had previously been announced through 14 February 2027, but the closing date supersedes those longer engagements. Those earlier dates do not, by themselves, confirm either performer for the final performance.

The concert-format musical has book, music and lyrics by Marlow and Moss. The Broadway production is directed by Moss and Jamie Armitage, with choreography by Carrie-Anne Ingrouille.

The production received eight nominations at the 2022 Tony Awards. It won Best Original Score for Marlow and Moss, as well as Best Costume Design of a Musical for Gabriella Slade.

The Broadway closing applies to the New York production rather than the musical as a whole. People reports continuing activity in the West End and on UK and Australian tours, alongside a resumed North American tour. Further plans include a return to China and a Spanish-language production in Madrid. The official global site also maintains separate Broadway, London, touring and Australian production markets.

SIX has also reached cinemas through SIX: THE MUSICAL LIVE!, featuring original West End principals including Paris and Atkinson. The filmed production opened in cinemas in the United States and Canada on 14 August 2026, after Australian audiences had received it earlier. Both performers are part of the current Broadway company, although their announced dates mean neither should yet be presented as a confirmed final-night cast member.

For Australian audiences, the Broadway farewell arrives while the musical retains an active local presence. AussieTheatre’s July analysis examined its latest Australian return, while the 18 August Broadway report covered the arrivals of Paris and Atkinson before the closing notice was issued. The new development changes the Broadway timetable without altering the separately reported continuation of the Australian edition.

The Broadway production now has a fixed final date, but two practical questions remain unresolved: the full company that will take the last bow and the production that will next occupy the Lena Horne Theatre. Neither has been announced.
