Sigourney Weaver Makes West End Debut as Prospero in The Tempest

Theatre Royal Drury Lane welcomes the opening night of The Tempest, featuring Sigourney Weaver in her West End debut. The celebrated actor, renowned for her roles in Alien and Avatar, takes on the iconic role of Prospero in Jamie Lloyd’s reimagining of Shakespeare’s timeless tale of magic, betrayal, and redemption. The production will run until 1 February 2025.

Joining Weaver in this star-studded cast are Jude Akuwudike as Alonso, Jason Barnett as Stephano, Selina Cadell as Gonzalo, and Mathew Horne as Trinculo. Mara Huf plays Miranda, Forbes Masson takes on the role of Caliban, and WhatsOnStage Award nominee Mason Alexander Park portrays Ariel. James Phoon (Bridgerton) stars as Ferdinand, with Oliver Ryan as Sebastian and Tim Steed (Jack Absolute Flies Again) as Antonio.

Jamie Lloyd’s visionary production is supported by a distinguished creative team. Soutra Gilmour leads the design of sets and costumes, while Jon Clark oversees lighting design. Ben and Max Ringham contribute sound design and co-composition, with additional music by Michael ‘Mikey J’ Asante. Fabian Aloise directs movement, and Jonathan Glew lends his expertise as associate director and text editor. Other key contributors include musical director Giles Deacon, intimacy coordinator Ingrid Mackinnon, associate costume designer Anna Josephs, props supervisor Fahmida Bakht, and production manager Lloyd Thomas.

Following The Tempest, Jamie Lloyd’s season at Theatre Royal Drury Lane continues with Tom Hiddleston and Hayley Atwell starring as Benedick and Beatrice in Much Ado About Nothing. This production is set to run from 10 February to 5 April 2025, promising another compelling interpretation of Shakespeare’s work.
