Sarah Jessica Parker Addresses Audience Member Filming During ‘Plaza Suite’ Performance

In a recent preview performance of ‘Plaza Suite’ at the Savoy Theatre, Sarah Jessica Parker, renowned for her role in ‘Sex and the City’, tactfully addressed an audience member using a camera during the show. Witnesses report that Parker briefly stepped out of her script to politely request the audience member to cease filming.

The production, which features Parker alongside her husband, Matthew Broderick, is a rendition of Neil Simon’s comedy classic. The play, directed by Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey, showcases three different couples in the same hotel suite, with Parker and Broderick portraying each pair.

‘Plaza Suite’ has enjoyed significant success, breaking box office records during its 19-week run at the Hudson Theatre in New York. It achieved the distinction of being the third-highest grossing play revival in Broadway history. The creative team behind this acclaimed production includes John Lee Beatty (set design), Jane Greenwood (costume design), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), Scott Lehrer (sound design), Marc Shaiman (incidental music), and Jim Carnahan (casting director).

This incident at the Savoy Theatre reflects a growing trend in live theater, where audiences are increasingly reminded to refrain from filming performances. Just last month, ‘Six the Musical’, playing at the Vaudeville Theatre opposite the Savoy, issued a similar statement regarding this issue. The call for respecting the live theater experience and the artists’ performances continues to be emphasized by the theater community. ‘Plaza Suite’ is scheduled to play until March 31, 2024.
