Sadie Sink joins 2026 Stage Debut Awards field as West End vote opens

Sadie Sink has secured a Best West End Debut Performer nomination for ROMEO AND JULIET as The Stage Debut Awards announced its 2026 shortlist on 20 August. The announcement also opened the category’s public vote, beginning the final stage of the awards cycle before the ceremony at 8 Northumberland Avenue in London on 27 September.

Sink is one of 10 contenders in the public-voted category for her performance as Juliet in Robert Icke’s production at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Her co-star Noah Jupe is nominated in the same field. The Independent reported that ROMEO AND JULIET had completed its 14-week West End run before the shortlist was announced, so the nominations recognise a completed engagement rather than an upcoming season.

Among the other contenders identified by The Independent are Brendan Gleeson and Kate Phillips for THE WEIR. Both sit within a category designed around a first West End appearance, a definition that can include established screen actors. Arti Shah is also nominated for PADDINGTON THE MUSICAL, where she works closely with puppeteer James Hameed to realise the title character on stage.

PADDINGTON THE MUSICAL also appears in the creative field. Tom Fletcher, who wrote the production’s music and lyrics, is nominated for Best Creative West End Debut. The Independent reports that the musical is playing at the Savoy Theatre and had won seven Olivier Awards. Its two nominations recognise distinct West End debut credits, with Shah represented for performance and Fletcher for his creative contribution.

Another established performer appears in a different capacity among the directing nominees. Ralph Fiennes has received a Best Director nomination after making his professional theatre-directing debut with AS YOU LIKE IT. It offers a broader account of theatrical arrival than the best-known names in the announcement might initially suggest.
