Rachel Zegler’s ‘Don’t Cry For Me Argentina’ rockets to No. 1 across UK charts after viral balcony debut

Rachel Zegler’s blistering West End debut as Eva Perón in Jamie Lloyd’s new staging of Evita has spun off a chart-topping single, her rendition of “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.” Released as a limited-edition blue 7-inch and across all major streaming platforms, the track opened at No. 1 on both the Official UK Vinyl Singles Chart and the Physical Singles Chart, while also claiming the top spot on iTunes UK’s Soundtrack tally.

The two-song digital drop pairs a studio recording with a “Live From the Balcony” cut captured outside the London Palladium, where Zegler delivers the anthem nightly to crowds gathered on Argyll Street, a moment that has generated more than 150 million online views and packed pavement audiences of over a thousand.

Streaming momentum has been equally swift, the single landed on Spotify’s Broadway Hits, All New Pop and New Music Friday playlists, as well as Apple Music’s New Music Daily spotlight. The physical edition, available only at the Palladium and via the show’s online store, helped the track reach No. 15 on the all-genre Official Singles Sales Chart.

Evita, produced by Michael Harrison and Lloyd Webber Harrison Musicals, runs at the Palladium through 6 September 2025, featuring lyrics by Tim Rice, music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and choreography by Fabian Aloise. Zegler stars opposite Diego Andres Rodriguez (Che), James Olivas (Juan Perón) and Aaron Lee Lambert (Agustín Magaldi), leading a 30-plus ensemble in what critics have called a “diamond-sharp” revival.

With its chart triumph and viral balcony buzz, Zegler’s breakout turn is positioning this limited 12-week engagement, and its signature single, as the theatre soundtrack of the summer.
