Quentin Tarantino to debut first stage play in London, and it could become his final film
Quentin Tarantino will bring his first stage play to London’s West End, with the filmmaker confirming that the project is already written and set to begin moving into production in early 2026. He said the work may also be adapted as his tenth and final film.
Speaking on The Church of Tarantino podcast, Tarantino outlined a clear timetable. He plans to “start the ball rolling” in January, expects the play to occupy a year and a half to two years if it is a success, and is preparing to relocate to England with his family while it is staged. He described the piece as untitled, with the possibility that it leans into comedy.
Tarantino has long maintained that he intends to make only ten features. He revealed that he has abandoned plans to shoot The Movie Critic after deciding it overlapped too closely with his previous film, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD. He left open the option of turning the new play into that tenth and final movie instead.
The choice of London is significant for the theatre industry. It places one of Hollywood’s most bankable storytellers in the West End at a time when Broadway producers are contending with rising costs. Recent commentary from major producers has stressed how difficult it has become to recoup investments in New York. Tarantino’s move adds fresh momentum to the West End as it heads into a competitive season.
Away from the stage, the director’s characters are set to return on screen. A Netflix film titled The Adventures of Cliff Booth, centred on Brad Pitt’s stuntman from ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, is in the works with David Fincher directing from a Tarantino script.
Tarantino also revisited the perennial question of his best work. He singled out Inglourious Basterds as his masterpiece, while saying Kill Bill was the film he was born to make, and ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD remains his favourite.
With the playwright-director expecting up to two years of work if the play hits, and with a potential screen adaptation in reserve, London looks set to host the next major chapter of Tarantino’s career. Ticket demand will be fierce when dates and a venue are announced.
