Paddington The Musical Dominates 2026 Olivier Awards as Rachel Zegler, Rosamund Pike and Paapa Essiedu Claim Major Wins

Paddington The Musical emerged as the clear standout at the 2026 Olivier Awards, sweeping up seven prizes at London’s Royal Albert Hall and cementing itself as the biggest winner of the night. Hosted by Nick Mohammed during the awards’ 50th anniversary year, the ceremony celebrated the best of London theatre, but it was the marmalade-loving bear who stole the spotlight, taking Best New Musical along with major acting, directing and design honours.

The Savoy Theatre production collected a remarkable run of wins, including Best Actor in a Musical for James Hameed and Arti Shah, Best Supporting Actor in a Musical for Tom Edden, Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for Victoria Hamilton-Barritt, and Best Director for Luke Sheppard. Paddington The Musical also triumphed in Best Set Design and Best Costume Design, underlining the scale of its success across both performance and creative categories.

Among the night’s other headline winners, Rachel Zegler was named Best Actress in a Musical for Evita, adding another major stage honour to a performance that drew widespread attention during its London run at the Palladium. Rosamund Pike won Best Actress for Inter Alia, while Paapa Essiedu took Best Supporting Actor for All My Sons, which also won Best Revival.

One of the evening’s bigger surprises came in the Best Actor category, where Jack Holden won for Kenrex, beating a strong field that included Bryan Cranston for All My Sons and Tom Hiddleston for Much Ado About Nothing. Kenrex also picked up Best Sound Design, while Punch was awarded Best New Play and earned Julie Hesmondhalgh the Olivier for Best Supporting Actress.

Elsewhere, Into The Woods won Best Musical Revival and also took the award for Best Lighting Design, while Evita added another win through Fabian Aloise’s Best Theatre Choreographer prize. Oh, Mary! claimed Best New Entertainment or Comedy Play, rounding out a ceremony that mixed major star power with strong recognition for new writing, revivals and bold theatrical craft.

Taken together, the 2026 Olivier Awards painted a picture of a London theatre scene in confident form, with Paddington The Musical leading the charge, Zegler confirming her West End impact, and performers like Pike, Essiedu and Holden giving the night a distinctly starry edge. Yet for all the individual achievements, this year’s ceremony belonged to one bear from darkest Peru.
