The land of Oz is calling once more. Universal Pictures released the first trailer for Wicked: For Good, the second installment of Jon M. Chu’s big-screen adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical, giving fans a glimpse of what’s ahead when the film arrives on November 21.
The trailer showcases Cynthia Erivo’s powerhouse return as Elphaba, the green-skinned witch, alongside Ariana Grande as Glinda, her sparkling and conflicted counterpart. Over three minutes, the teaser weaves together tension, heartbreak, and spectacle, highlighting the witches’ evolving relationship and their diverging destinies.
Unlike the Broadway production, which concludes roughly where the first movie ended, Part 2 expands the narrative, delving further into Elphaba’s descent into infamy and Glinda’s rise as a celebrated figure. The preview teases Elphaba’s growing defiance against the Wizard’s deceptions and hints at a deepening romantic subplot with Prince Fiyero, played by Jonathan Bailey.
Musical highlights such as “No Good Deed” and “For Good” underscore the trailer, reminding fans that while the story grows darker, the heart of Wicked remains in its iconic score and emotional resonance.
Chu’s decision to split the adaptation into two films was made to preserve the scope of the original stage production. Compressing the material into a single movie, he has said, would have meant cutting characters and songs—choices that risked weakening the story’s impact. By expanding into two installments, the filmmakers aim to explore the witches’ journeys with greater depth and nuance.
Following the success of Wicked: Part One, the release of For Good is one of the year’s most anticipated cinematic events. With its blend of blockbuster spectacle, beloved music, and the dynamic pairing of Erivo and Grande, the sequel promises to enchant both longtime fans of the Broadway hit and newcomers alike.
