New Musical IF I HAD YOU Heading to London

A brand-new romantic comedy musical, IF I HAD YOU, is set to make its mark in London later this month with an exclusive workshop performance at the Actors’ Church in Covent Garden. Theatre enthusiasts are in for a treat on Monday, 27 January 2025, as this highly anticipated production takes its first step toward what could be a prominent spot in the theatre world.

The musical is a collaborative creation with a score by Joel Spineti and a book and lyrics penned by Kenny D’Aquila, who is also producing the show alongside Tina Treadwell and the Totus Tuus Family Trust. Set in the romantic backdrop of Rome, IF I HAD YOU explores themes of love, loss, and hope, promising a heartfelt and compelling narrative. This semi-staged, scripts-in-hand workshop format will offer audiences a glimpse into the creative process, allowing them to experience the raw and unpolished energy of a work in development.

The casting is equally exciting, headlined by Charlie McCullagh, known for his roles in 42 BALLOONS and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. Joining him is Chelsea Halfpenny, a seasoned performer with credits in WAITRESS and 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL, and Daniele Alan-Carter, whose performances in DANCE OF THE VAMPIRES and OH WHAT A NIGHT! have earned him acclaim. The ensemble cast boasts a stellar lineup, including Dante Palminteri, Emma Kingston, Gabriella Palminteri, Alison Jiear, Maggie Lynne, Sue Kelvin, Sebastian Torkia, Simone Pavesio, Max Rizzo, Gabriel Constantin, Mia Raggio, Hubert Hogarth, Faith Delaney, and Dexter Pulling.

The production is supported by a skilled team behind the scenes. Casting is overseen by Debbie O’Brien Casting, known for her sharp eye for talent, while general management is handled by Thomas Hopkins Productions. This collective of experienced professionals ensures that IF I HAD YOU is in capable hands as it moves through this critical development stage.

The workshop performance will run for 140 minutes, including a 20-minute interval, offering a comprehensive taste of the musical’s charm. With tickets priced at an accessible £17.50, the event invites a wide audience, making it an ideal opportunity for theatre lovers to witness the evolution of a new production. Suitable for ages 12 and above, this workshop promises to be a delightful evening for families and individual patrons alike.

Tickets for IF I HAD YOU are already available for purchase via the Actors’ Church website, and demand is expected to be high. This production’s emphasis on storytelling and its emotionally resonant themes could well position it as a standout in the 2025 theatre scene.

For Australian theatre enthusiasts, it’s worth noting the international appeal of musicals like IF I HAD YOU. As London’s theatre scene continues to set the gold standard for the global stage, productions developed in workshops often make their way to other major theatre hubs, including Australia. With its universal themes and strong creative pedigree, this musical could eventually find its way Down Under, adding another exciting chapter to its journey.

The creative process behind musicals is a fascinating blend of collaboration and evolution, and workshops like this one play a vital role in refining the final product. As audiences gather at the Actors’ Church later this month, they’ll not only enjoy an evening of engaging performances but also become part of the narrative that shapes this promising new production.
