Melissa Barrera to Make Broadway Debut as Rose in Titanique Limited Run

Melissa Barrera is set to make her Broadway debut this spring, stepping into the role of Rose DeWitt Bukater in the irreverent parody musical Titanique at New York’s St. James Theatre.

Best known for her screen work in Scream and In the Heights, Barrera will headline the Main Stem transfer of the camp comedy, which reimagines James Cameron’s 1997 blockbuster Titanic through the lens and song catalogue of global music icon Céline Dion. The musical reframes the epic love story of Jack and Rose with heightened theatricality, broad comedy and a soundtrack powered by Dion’s biggest hits.

In Titanique, the familiar tale of the ill fated voyage is retold with a playful twist, asking audiences to reconsider what truly unfolded between Jack and Rose on that infamous night at sea. Songs such as My Heart Will Go On, Because You Loved Me, All by Myself and To Love You More are woven into the narrative, transforming the sweeping romance into a knowingly over the top theatrical spectacle.

Barrera takes on the role made famous on screen by Kate Winslet, bringing her own vocal strength and stage presence to the production. Her recent credits include Netflix’s Your Monster and the Peacock series The Copenhagen Test alongside Simu Liu. Upcoming projects for the actor include Renny Harlin’s action thriller Black Tides and the film adaptation of The Collaboration, directed by Kwame Kwei Armah and starring Jeremy Pope and Paul Bettany.

Returning to the production is co creator Marla Mindelle, who reprises her performance as Céline Dion. Mindelle co wrote the musical with Tye Blue and Constantine Rousouli. The Broadway company will also feature four time Emmy winner and Tony Award nominee Jim Parsons as Ruth DeWitt Bukater, Rose’s formidable mother, and Grammy nominee Deborah Cox as the indomitable Molly Brown.

Titanique first premiered off Broadway in June 2022 at the Asylum Theatre before transferring to the Daryl Roth Theatre, where it enjoyed a three year run that concluded in June 2025. During its off Broadway life, the production expanded internationally with seasons in Sydney, London, Chicago and Paris, building a devoted fan base drawn to its blend of nostalgia, pop spectacle and satirical flair.

Now preparing for a 16 week limited Broadway engagement, the production will begin previews on March 26, with an official opening night scheduled for April 12. The run is set to conclude on July 12.

With Barrera leading the cast as Rose, the Broadway transfer of Titanique promises a high energy theatrical event that fuses powerhouse vocals, cinematic homage and unabashed comedy for a new chapter on the New York stage.
