Megan Thee Stallion Makes Broadway Debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical

Megan Thee Stallion has made her Broadway debut, stepping into Moulin Rouge! The Musical for a limited engagement and making history as the first woman to play the role of Harold Zidler in the production.

The three-time Grammy winner began her run this week, bringing her star power to the Broadway stage for an eight-week engagement in the hit musical. Her arrival marks a notable crossover moment between the music industry and musical theatre, with one of rap’s biggest contemporary stars taking on a key role in one of Broadway’s most lavish and high-profile productions.

Audience excitement around her first performance was matched by strong support from fellow entertainers, with Girls Trip stars Queen Latifah and Tiffany Haddish among those in attendance for the occasion. Megan later shared footage from her curtain call, capturing a warm response from the crowd as she took her bow following the performance.

Her turn in Moulin Rouge! is also notable for the way it blends her established musical identity with the structure of the stage show. During the performance, Megan incorporated two of her best-known songs, Savage and Body, weaving her own catalogue into the Broadway setting and giving the production a distinctly personal stamp.

The engagement represents the latest expansion of Megan’s work beyond the recording studio. While best known globally for her chart-topping music career, she has steadily built a screen résumé in recent years, with acting credits that include P-Valley, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, Dicks: The Musical and the 2024 remake of Mean Girls. More recently, she also appeared in the Peacock comedy series The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins.

Her move onto Broadway suggests a continued broadening of her creative ambitions. Megan has previously spoken about her interest in acting and filmmaking, describing a desire not only to perform on screen but also to direct and bring original stories to life. That wider creative drive has increasingly shaped her public career, with this Broadway debut now adding live theatre to an already expanding body of work.

Moulin Rouge! The Musical, based on Baz Luhrmann’s film, has built its reputation on spectacle, pop-infused musical arrangements and bold casting choices, making it a fitting vehicle for a performer with Megan’s commanding stage presence. By taking on Zidler, she joins a production known for embracing glamour, excess and theatrical flair, qualities that align naturally with her own performance style.

For Broadway, the casting offers another example of the industry drawing in major names from contemporary music to create event theatre and attract new audiences. For Megan, it marks a significant career milestone, placing her on one of live performance’s most visible stages while also opening the door to further work in theatre and screen storytelling.

With her eight-week run now underway, Megan Thee Stallion’s debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical stands as both a headline-making Broadway moment and another step in her evolution as a multi-hyphenate entertainer.
