The eagerly-awaited movie adaptation of Matilda is now available on various digital platforms. Directed by the talented Matthew Warchus, it was first released on November 25, 2022, by Sony Pictures UK and Tristar Pictures, exclusively in cinemas across the UK and Ireland. But today, fans can now stream the film on popular platforms such as Amazon Prime, YouTube, and more, either to rent or purchase.
‘Matilda the Musical’ is based on the beloved children’s book by Roald Dahl and is comprised of a script by Dennis Kelly and musical numbers composed by Tim Minchin. It tells the story of a young girl named Matilda who is a gifted and exceptional child, but is constantly dismissed and mistreated by her parents and her cruel school headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. With the help of her kind and loving teacher, Miss Honey, Matilda learns to use her special powers to stand up for herself and fight against the injustices she faces. The musical combines humor, heart, and a powerful message about the importance of standing up for oneself and fighting for what’s right.
The movie features an all-star cast including Emma Thompson, Lashana Lynch, Stephen Graham, Andrea Riseborough, Sindhu Vee, and Alisha Weir. It has received recognition for its excellence, being nominated for two BAFTA Awards for Outstanding British Film and Make-Up and Hair.
The film can now be streamed on Netflix around the world, excluding the UK and Ireland, and will be coming to Netflix UK this summer.
