Marla Mindelle reflects as TITANÍQUE enters final Broadway weeks

Marla Mindelle has reflected on taking a musical she helped create to Broadway, as TITANÍQUE enters the final weeks of its extended engagement at New York’s St. James Theatre. In an interview published by Out on 4 September 2026, the co-writer and leading performer discussed why this Broadway run carries particular weight for her. The production is scheduled to give its final performance on 20 September, with a North American tour already announced for 2027.

Mindelle co-wrote TITANÍQUE with Constantine Rousouli and Tye Blue, who also directs the Broadway production. She told Out that reaching Broadway felt especially meaningful because she was appearing as the actor playing Céline Dion and as one of the authors who built the work. Rather than discussing Broadway solely as a performer, she linked the achievement directly to authorship. Her connection to the engagement extends beyond the leading role: it is the latest public stage in a project she helped shape from its earlier forms.

TITANÍQUE retells the story of the Titanic from a fictionalised Céline Dion’s perspective, using songs associated with Dion. The singer does not appear in the production. Mindelle described comedy as the most natural element of her performance and credited Dion’s voice as an influence. Her comments frame the portrayal as an affectionate, knowingly theatrical creation rather than a claim to represent Dion herself.

The show began Broadway previews on 26 March 2026 and officially opened on 12 April. Its original announced closing date of 12 July was superseded by an extension through 20 September. That change added more than two months to the previously announced schedule. The extension gives Mindelle’s interview immediate context: her reflections arrive shortly before the Broadway company completes its run. TITANÍQUE plays for approximately one hour and 40 minutes without an interval.

The official Broadway cast page lists Mindelle, Rousouli, Jim Parsons, Deborah Cox, Melissa Barrera, Frankie Grande, John Riddle and Layton Williams among the principal company. Blue directs, Ellenore Scott choreographs, and Nicholas James Connell provides music supervision, arrangements and orchestrations. Blue’s combined writing and directing responsibilities echo Mindelle’s own crossover between authorship and performance.

The next confirmed stage is a multi-city North American tour. According to Playbill, the tour was announced on 19 May 2026 for a 2027 launch, months before the new Out interview. Los Angeles, San Diego, Charlotte, Oklahoma City and Washington, D.C. were named as intended destinations. As of 5 September, its opening date, launch city, complete itinerary, individual venues and cast remained unannounced. The announcement therefore identifies intended destinations rather than a complete route.

Mindelle told Out she was especially enthusiastic about taking the show back to Los Angeles, where its documented public performance history began with a one-night concert in 2017. She characterised the broader path as a 10-year journey. The public chronology starts in 2017, so that description is best understood as her personal account of the project’s development rather than a precise calculation. TITANÍQUE then played New York’s Green Room 42 in 2018, became a fully staged Off-Broadway production in 2022 and later transferred to the Daryl Roth Theatre. Its 2026 move to the St. James Theatre brought that development path to Broadway, with Mindelle remaining co-author and leading performer.

The Broadway production received four 2026 Tony Award nominations. They included Best Musical, recognition for Mindelle and Williams, and Best Book of a Musical for Mindelle, Rousouli and Blue. The nominations recognise the musical overall and the performance and writing dimensions of Mindelle’s contribution. TITANÍQUE also won a 2025 Olivier Award.

TITANÍQUE has also had productions in Sydney, London, Toronto, Montréal, Chicago and Paris. A separate West End production is currently advertised into January 2027, continuing after Broadway’s scheduled close. The Sydney staging gives the musical an Australian history, but no Australian return season has been confirmed. Mindelle also mentioned South Korea to Out as a place she would like the show to reach; that was an aspiration, not an announcement. For now, the West End engagement is advertised into the year in which the planned North American tour is due to begin.
