Jinkx Monsoon Closes Sold-Out Broadway Run in Oh, Mary! Ahead of Holiday Tour
Broadway audiences could not get enough of Jinkx Monsoon. The two-time RuPaul’s Drag Race winner has officially wrapped her eight-week engagement as Mary Todd Lincoln in Cole Escola’s dark comedy Oh, Mary! at the Lyceum Theatre, with every performance selling out, Playbill confirmed.
By the final week of Monsoon’s run, the production reached its highest gross since Escola, who also penned and originated the role, departed in June. Average ticket prices surged to $185, underscoring Monsoon’s drawing power as audiences clamoured for a seat.
From Drag Race to Broadway Mainstay
Monsoon’s trajectory from drag superstardom to Broadway sensation has been swift and undeniable. After her breakout victory on Drag Race, she won acclaim with her crowd-pleasing turn as Matron “Mama” Morton in Chicago—so popular she was invited back for a second stint. She later originated a role in Pirates! before stepping into Escola’s hit production of Oh, Mary!
What was once perceived as novelty casting has now solidified Monsoon’s reputation as a bona fide theatre force. Producers know she sells tickets, and audiences know she delivers.
Breaking Barriers
Monsoon’s presence on Broadway has also become a landmark moment for representation. As both a trans woman and a drag queen, her success in leading roles is reshaping conversations about who belongs on stage, and what theatrical storytelling can look like in the future.
Though her next Broadway project has yet to be announced, Monsoon has hinted at ambitions beyond New York, including television, film, and a possible West End debut.
Holiday Show Returns
Fans will not have to wait long to see her back in action. This November, Monsoon will reunite with longtime collaborator BenDeLaCreme for the eighth annual Jinkx & DeLa Holiday Show. This year’s edition promises an all-new production, teasing a Freaky Friday-inspired twist. As with past tours, audiences can expect camp, chaos, and heartwarming moments in equal measure.
Monsoon may have just taken her final bow as Mary Todd Lincoln, but her star continues to rise. With a sold-out Broadway run behind her and a holiday tour on the horizon, she has proven she is more than a drag icon—she is a true theatre powerhouse.
