Jimin Moon and George Salazar Join Broadway’s THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW

Broadway’s latest journey to Transylvania is preparing for a major cast transformation, with Jimin Moon and George Salazar joining the current revival of THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW at Studio 54.

Beginning 25 August, Moon will take over the role of Rocky, while Salazar will step into the dual role of Eddie and Dr Scott. Preston Perez will also join the company as a swing on the same date. The new arrivals succeed Josh Rivera and Harvey Guillén, who will play their final performances as Rocky and Eddie/Dr Scott respectively on 23 August.

The casting places Moon at the centre of Richard O’Brien’s cult musical as Rocky, the physically imposing creation brought to life inside the eccentric laboratory of Dr Frank-N-Furter.

Moon comes to the production following his appearance as Shane Hollander in HEATED RIVALRY: THE UNAUTHORIZED MUSICAL PARODY. His Broadway credits include Jamie Lloyd’s revival of SUNSET BOULEVARD, the original production of LEMPICKA and Disney’s ALADDIN.

For Salazar, the appointment marks a return to Broadway and his fourth collaboration with director Sam Pinkleton. The performer is particularly well known to musical theatre audiences for originating Michael Mell in BE MORE CHILL, including the character’s signature number, Michael in the Bathroom. His Broadway credits also include GODSPELL, while his wider stage career has featured productions of LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, HEAD OVER HEELS, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES and THE LIGHTNING THIEF: THE PERCY JACKSON MUSICAL.

On television, Salazar has appeared as George Conway in IMPEACHMENT: AMERICAN CRIME STORY and played Eric Sosa across two seasons of SUPERSTORE. He also voiced Happy in Disney’s live-action adaptation of SNOW WHITE.

Perez arrives after appearing in the Broadway production of DEATH BECOMES HER, where he understudied Chagall. He previously made his Broadway debut in A BEAUTIFUL NOISE and played Prince Hans in the first national tour of Disney’s FROZEN. His other credits include Roundabout Theatre Company’s Off-Broadway premiere of THE BANDED PLACE.

The trio’s arrival forms part of a wider late-August cast change at Studio 54. Lorna Courtney will assume the role of Janet on 25 August, replacing Stephanie Hsu, while Kevin McHale will make his Broadway debut as Brad, succeeding Andrew Durand. Hsu and Durand will also give their final performances on 23 August.

Courtney, a Tony Award nominee for her performance in & JULIET, recently appeared as Anne Wheeler in the world premiere stage adaptation of THE GREATEST SHOWMAN and as Veronica in HEATHERS. McHale, best known for playing Artie Abrams in GLEE, previously appeared in productions of THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE and THE FROGS.

The production is also preparing for a change in its central role. Luke Evans will conclude his engagement as Frank-N-Furter on 23 August. Company member Paul Soileau will play the role from 25 August until 10 September, before Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears begins performances on 11 September.

Continuing members of the principal company include Rachel Dratch as the Narrator, Amber Gray as Riff Raff, Sherie Rene Scott as Magenta and Valentina as Columbia.

Directed by Pinkleton, who won a Tony Award for his work on OH, MARY!, the revival began previews on 26 March and officially opened on 23 April. Originally announced as a limited engagement, the production has since been extended through 28 February 2027.

The creative team includes choreographer Ani Taj, music supervisor Kris Kukul, scenic designers dots, costume designer David I. Reynoso, lighting designer Jane Cox, sound designer Brian Ronan, hair and wig designer Alberto “Albee” Alvarado and makeup designer Sterling Tull.

THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW follows newly engaged couple Brad and Janet after a breakdown leads them to the home of Frank-N-Furter, a charismatic scientist preparing to unveil his newest creation. What begins as an attempt to find help quickly becomes a night of seduction, science fiction, rock music and escalating chaos.

Featuring O’Brien’s book, music and lyrics, the musical includes enduring favourites such as Sweet Transvestite, Dammit Janet and Time Warp. The new production embraces both the work’s stage origins and the participatory culture that grew around its film adaptation, while asking audiences to balance familiar call-outs with the live performance taking place onstage.

More than five decades after its first appearance, THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW continues to attract performers from Broadway, television, film, pop music and drag culture. The arrival of Moon, Salazar and Perez, alongside the previously announced cast changes, will give the Studio 54 revival an extensively refreshed company as it enters the next phase of its extended Broadway run.
