James Corden has set himself a new challenge alongside his Broadway return: achieving a full body transformation by the end of the year.
The former host of The Late Late Show has relocated to New York to star in the revival of Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning play Art, which opened on September 16 to positive reviews. Sharing the stage with Neil Patrick Harris and Bobby Cannavale, Corden has already won praise for his comedic timing and energy. Now, he is aiming to match that onstage success with personal fitness goals.
Corden revealed he has been training with Harris’ personal coach, embracing a routine of intensive lunges, planks, and strength work. The 47-year-old actor joked that audiences should expect a transformation unlike anything they have seen before, with the goal of carving out a six-pack to rival his co-star. While he admitted he may never reach Harris’ physique, Corden is determined to make the effort.
The Gavin & Stacey creator has long been candid about his health journey. In 2021, he partnered with Weight Watchers (WW) and lost 28 pounds, crediting the program for helping him maintain progress through traditionally difficult periods like the holiday season. He has spoken openly about past struggles with consistency, his fondness for indulgent foods, and even his unsuccessful experience with weight-loss medication Ozempic, noting that it curbed hunger but didn’t address his eating habits.
Corden’s latest chapter pairs his return to theatre with a renewed commitment to fitness. As Art continues its run, audiences will not only be watching his performance on stage but also following his offstage transformation — one that he promises will be both surprising and inspiring.
