James Corden confirmed for new CINDERELLA movie musical

Columbia Pictures previously confirmed movie musical remake of Cinderella is due to arrive in cinemas on February 5, 2021.  The new Cinderella will be a music oriented version of the traditional story, about an orphaned girl with an evil stepmother. Sony has flagged the project to be fast tracked for production.

Tony winner James Corden along with John Mulaney (Oh, Hello on Broadway) will play footmen/mice next to stand up comedian Romesh Ranganthan. The new modern day Cinderella will feature a script by Kay Cannon who will be writing and directing the film whilst James Corden will also have story writing credit and co-producing credits.

Other notable names added to the star studded cast include Oscar nominee Minnie Driver as Queen Beatrice and Grammy winner Missy Elliot as the Town Crier.

Driver and Elliot join previously announced two time Grammy nominee Camilla Cabello set to star in the role. The Cuban native, who is best known for her part of Fifth Harmony before going solo, hit superstar status when her single ‘Havana’ and debut album ‘Camilla’ debuted at No. 1 on 110 different iTunes charts around the world. Cabello is rumoured to be working on new music for the movie.

Broadway veterans Idina Menzel and Billy Porter will take on the roles of the evil stepmother and the fairy godmother respectively.

Previously announced cast include Pierce Brosnan, cast as the king. On January 9 2020 Maddie Baillio (Hairspray Live!) and Charlotte Spencer (Mary Poppins, Stephen Ward) were cast as Cinderella’s stepsisters.

Principal photography is scheduled to start in February 2020.
