Immersive Great Gatsby Production to Come to New York City

Here’s an exciting piece of news for any hardcore Gatsby fans out there!

A brand new immersive theatrical experience based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel The Great Gatsby will be making its stateside debut in New York City sometime this fall. While, the venue, dates and cast are yet to be revealed, we do know that the show will continue to be directed by Alexander Wright

Wright’s show has already wowed audiences in the United Kingdom, where this production of The Great Gatsby has been playing at the state-of-the-art West End venue IMMERSIVE |LDN. The show is breaking records as the long-running immersive production in UK theatre history. Wright is also the man behind A Christmas Carol – The Immersive Dining Experience and The Wolf of Wall Street, both of which still have residencies on the London stage.

The show has been running in the UK since 2019, but has faced difficulty in recent times thanks to COVID restrictions.

This adaptation of Fitzgerald’s timeless tale allows audiences to truly experience the world of the titular enigma, Jay Gatsby. Theatre-goers are transported to a world of bootleg booze, raucous jazz scene and flappers galore, as Andrew Wright brings the vibe and energy of the roaring twenties to life in glorious fashion.

For those unfamiliar with the story, The Great Gatsby was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald in 1925. Set during the bustling Jazz Age in Long Island, the tale follows narrator Nick Carraway as he forms a friendship with his millionaire neighbour Jay Gatsby. The novel takes you on a journey into upper-class obsession as Gatsby tries to reunite with his old flame, Daisy Buchanan.

In a joint statement, show producers Louis Hartshorn and Brian Hook had the following to say:

The Great Gatsby is finally coming to its spiritual home in New York. Hedonistic, literary and theatrical, this immersive telling of one of the world’s greatest novels brings audiences closer to Jay Gatsby’s opulent world than ever before.

The New York production of The Great Gatsby is being produced by Immersive Everywhere, Hartshorn-Hook Productions and Broadway International Group, while Louis Hartshorn, Brian Hook, Simone Genatt, Marc Routh will all serve as executive producers. Hartshorn and Hook launched Immersive Everywhere two years ago, paving the way for a rise in theatre-led immersive performance. The pair previous won an Olivier Award for their work on the critically-acclaimed Rotterdam.
