The dark-comedy cult favourite Heathers the Musical has lengthened its newly opened Off-Broadway engagement by four months. Originally slated to conclude on 28 September, the production will now stay in class at New World Stages through 25 January 2026, a move producers attribute to unprecedented ticket demand.
This fresh New York return—its first since the show’s 2014 Off-Broadway premiere—follows a record-breaking West End run that cemented the musical’s enduring popularity.
Tony nominee Lorna Courtney headlines as Veronica Sawyer opposite Casey Likes as Jason “J.D.” Dean. The Heathers are portrayed by McKenzie Kurtz (Heather Chandler), Olivia Hardy (Heather Duke) and Elizabeth Teeter (Heather MacNamara).
Rounding out the principal cast are Tony nominee Kerry Butler as Ms Fleming/Veronica’s Mom, Erin Morton as Martha Dunnstock, Xavier McKinnon as Ram Sweeney, Cade Ostermeyer as Kurt Kelly, Ben Davis as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, and Cameron Loyal as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan.
Adapted from Daniel Waters’ 1989 cult film starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, the stage version features music, lyrics and a book by Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy. Direction is by Andy Fickman, who previously oversaw the show’s acclaimed U.K. production, with choreography by Gary Lloyd and additional choreography from Stephanie Klemons.
Set in the cut-throat corridors of Westerberg High, Heathers follows outsider Veronica whose quest for social status places her under the wing of the beautiful—and brutally cruel—Heathers. Her newfound popularity—and sanity—are soon tested by the arrival of mysterious rebel J.D., revealing that while it might kill to be a nobody, it’s murder being a somebody.
Fan-favourite numbers such as “Candy Store,” “Seventeen” and “Dead Girl Walking” have fuelled the musical’s devoted following on both sides of the Atlantic.
Seats for performances through 25 January 2026 are now on sale via the production’s official website and at the New World Stages box office (340 West 50th Street).
