THE GREATEST SHOWMAN confirms spring 2027 Drury Lane transfer with five returning principals

Disney Theatrical Group has confirmed that THE GREATEST SHOWMAN will play Theatre Royal Drury Lane from spring 2027, carrying five principal performers from its Bristol world premiere into the West End. The announcement gives the screen-to-stage musical its first official London venue and season window after the completed Bristol engagement. It also supersedes earlier expectations of a transfer in 2026 with timing confirmed by the production itself.

The initial London line-up comprises Oliver Tompsett as P.T. Barnum, Samantha Barks as Charity Barnum, Ben Joyce as Phillip Carlyle, Vajèn van den Bosch as Jenny Lind and Malinda Parris as Lettie Lutz. Each played the same role at the Bristol Hippodrome. The five-name announcement therefore carries established principal casting from Bristol into London rather than introducing an entirely new group of leads. For two members of the group, the move also brings a return to Drury Lane: Samantha Barks previously appeared there in Disney’s FROZEN, while Malinda Parris‘s credits at the theatre include Disney’s HERCULES.

The five names do not amount to a complete London company. The official cast page says further casting will be announced, and no performer has yet been named for Anne Wheeler in London. Lorna Courtney played Anne in Bristol, but her London status remains unannounced. Her absence from the five-name list should not be read as confirmation of either participation or departure. Child performers, alternates, standbys, ensemble members and swings are also among the casting still outstanding, leaving the wider company unresolved.

Disney first announced the Bristol world premiere on 5 March 2025 and published its full cast and creative team on 15 October that year. Disney presented THE GREATEST SHOWMAN as a world-premiere production and limited season at the Bristol Hippodrome, where it played from 15 March to 10 May 2026. Disney later described the completed engagement as sold out. That chronology makes Bristol the completed premiere season preceding the confirmed West End transfer.

According to WhatsOnStage, the West End plans were confirmed during a special performance at D23 in Anaheim. The publication reported the announcement on 15 August 2026, just over three months after the Bristol engagement ended.

AussieTheatre has previously covered the adaptation’s announcement, casting searches, Bristol premiere and Bristol company. An article published on 8 March 2025 anticipated a Theatre Royal Drury Lane transfer later in 2026, before any official London booking had been announced. The production website’s spring 2027 window now supersedes that forecast. Because the earlier timing was an expectation rather than a formally announced season, the change should not be read as evidence of a postponement.

The stage musical is based on the 2017 20th Century Studios motion picture, with story by Jenny Bicks. Its official website says the adaptation includes all songs from the film alongside new songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. The score therefore combines existing screen material with songs written for the stage, although neither the number nor titles of those additions has been disclosed. Tim Federle wrote the book. THE GREATEST SHOWMAN at Drury Lane is distinct from COME ALIVE! THE GREATEST SHOWMAN CIRCUS SPECTACULAR, a separate London production that uses songs from the film. The Drury Lane project is Disney’s fully staged musical adaptation.

Casey Nicholaw directs and choreographs the production, while Alex Lacamoire provides music supervision, orchestrations and dance-music arrangements. The current creative roster also includes David Korins, Gregg Barnes, Sky Switser, Natasha Katz, Peter Hylenski, George Reeve and Lorenzo Pisoni among its principal team. The official London listing continues to credit this creative leadership alongside the returning cast.

Disney Theatrical Group is lead producer, with The Seelig Group also credited as a producer. Disney describes THE GREATEST SHOWMAN as the first 20th Century Studios title to be adapted for the stage by its theatrical division.

No post-Bristol changes have yet been detailed. The production has not said whether the book, score, staging or other elements will be revised for Drury Lane. The published London material confirms the broad content and creative team, but leaves open how closely the West End version will match the production presented in Bristol.

Practical information remains similarly broad. The official FAQ says the full London schedule will be released later, so exact preview, opening-night and booking dates are not yet available. It gives no weekly performance pattern, access-performance calendar, ticket prices or specific on-sale date, although tickets are expected to be released later in autumn 2026. Theatre Royal Drury Lane is the only venue currently announced. No Broadway transfer, Australian production or international tour has been confirmed. Further casting and the detailed West End schedule remain outstanding, with the expected autumn ticket release the next defined public milestone.
