George Clooney’s Record-Breaking Broadway Debut Headed to Netflix in 2026

George Clooney’s acclaimed Broadway debut is set to reach a global audience in 2026, with Netflix confirming it will stream a filmed version of Good Night, and Good Luck following its historic stage run.

The production, titled Good Night, and Good Luck: Live from Broadway, captures Clooney’s first appearance on a Broadway stage, where he portrayed pioneering American journalist Edward R. Murrow. The play marked a major milestone in the actor’s career and extended the legacy of a story he first brought to the screen two decades earlier.

Netflix will release the recorded performance on 7 January 2026 across the United States, the United Kingdom and selected international territories. The move gives streaming audiences access to a theatrical event that was one of the most talked-about productions of the 2025 Broadway season.

Clooney has a long association with Good Night, and Good Luck, having co-written, directed and starred in the original 2005 film adaptation. While he previously appeared on screen as producer Fred Friendly, the stage version saw him step into the central role of Murrow, offering a different perspective on the story of journalism, integrity and political pressure during the McCarthy era.

The Broadway production achieved significant commercial and critical success. It received five Tony Award nominations, including recognition for Clooney’s leading performance. Financially, it broke records to become the highest-grossing play in Broadway history, surpassing the four million dollar mark in a single week and recouping its initial investment in under two months.

The show also expanded beyond the theatre in an unprecedented way when one performance was broadcast live on CNN, marking a rare crossover between Broadway and live television news. The broadcast highlighted the production’s themes of media responsibility and courage, while underscoring its cultural impact.

With its arrival on Netflix, Good Night, and Good Luck continues its evolution from film to stage to streaming, allowing a wider audience to experience a landmark moment in Clooney’s career and a Broadway production that reshaped expectations of what live theatre can achieve beyond the stage.
