Dreamgirls Set for First Broadway Revival in 2026

Broadway audiences can look forward to the return of one of its most iconic musicals, with Dreamgirls confirmed for its first-ever newly directed and choreographed Broadway revival in 2026.

Featuring a book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Tom Eyen and music by Henry Krieger, Dreamgirls follows the journey of The Dreams, a girl group navigating fame, ambition, and the challenges of the music industry. The original 1981 production, directed and choreographed by Michael Bennett, received 13 Tony Award nominations and won six. The 2006 film adaptation went on to achieve critical acclaim, including an Academy Award for Jennifer Hudson.

The upcoming revival will be led by five-time Tony nominee Camille A. Brown, marking a fresh creative vision for the celebrated show. The production will feature some of the musical’s most beloved numbers, including “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “One Night Only.”

Producers Sonia Friedman Productions, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, and LaChanze Productions announced an extensive international casting search to find performers for the three central roles of The Dreams. Auditions are scheduled to take place in cities across the United States, Canada, Europe, and Mexico, including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Detroit, Miami, London, Toronto, Mexico City, Amsterdam, Rome, and Paris.

Dreamgirls was last seen on the West End from 2016 to 2019, but the 2026 revival will mark its long-awaited return to Broadway with a brand-new staging. Further details, including casting and performance dates, are expected to be announced soon.
