Donmar Warehouse’s 2026 Season: A Quartet of New Voices and Classics

Donmar Warehouse has unveiled a bold 2026 season featuring three world premieres and a revival, reflecting artistic director Tim Sheader’s mission to champion contemporary playwrights. The season opens with MASS, an adaptation of Fran Kranz’s award‑winning 2021 film about parents confronting shared grief. Directed by Carrie Cracknell, the stage version runs 18 April to 6 June. Donmar regular Russell Tovey headlines THE GUILTY, a theatrical take on the Danish thriller Den Skyldige, directed by Punchdrunk founder Felix Barrett and running 20 June to 15 August.

Next, Lyndsey Turner helms a revival of Brian Friel’s A MONTH IN THE COUNTRY from 22 August to 3 October. Friel’s adaptation of Turgenev’s classic explores unrequited love in a 19th‑century Russian estate and marks the Donmar’s first collaboration with Turner since Hamlet. Finally, the season concludes with ILFORD BOY by Danny Lee Wynter, a coming‑of‑age story set in 1990s East London and directed by Sheader, running 10 October to 28 November.

Australian audiences may find parallels between these works and current conversations at home. MASS echoes debates around trauma and reconciliation in the wake of national tragedies; ILFORD BOY’s exploration of identity and sexuality resonates with First Nations and migrant narratives on Australian stages. Donmar’s commitment to accessible pricing, with £20 tickets for under‑35s and 1,800 free school seats, serves as a model for local theatres seeking to broaden reach.
