David Fynn to Star in Beetlejuice The Musical West End Transfer
Beetlejuice The Musical has confirmed its leading man for the West End, with actor David Fynn set to take on the title role when the production arrives in London this year.
The musical adaptation of the beloved 1988 film will begin performances at the Prince Edward Theatre from May 20, bringing the hit stage show to the West End after its earlier success in the United States. Fynn, known for his screen work including Prime Video’s Lazarus, will step into the role made famous on screen by Michael Keaton, becoming the latest performer to tackle one of popular culture’s most gleefully chaotic characters.
His casting gives the production a recognisable and versatile leading presence as it prepares for its London run. Fynn has been tipped to bring a lively and mischievous energy to the role, which remains one of the musical’s biggest drawcards. With its blend of comedy, supernatural mayhem and offbeat theatricality, Beetlejuice demands a performer able to balance irreverence with charisma, and the production appears confident it has found that in its West End star.
Based on Tim Burton’s original film, Beetlejuice The Musical follows Lydia Deetz, a teenager navigating grief and family upheaval, who finds herself sharing her home with a recently deceased couple and eventually summons the wildly unpredictable Beetlejuice. What follows is a darkly comic supernatural story that combines gothic visuals, outrageous humour and emotional undercurrents, all of which helped the original film become a cult favourite.
The stage version has developed its own substantial following since premiering on Broadway, where it won audiences over with its anarchic tone, large-scale visuals and a score that leans into the property’s eccentric spirit. Like the Broadway production, the West End staging will be directed by Alex Timbers, whose credits include Moulin Rouge! The Musical. The show features music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect and a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King.
Its arrival in London comes at a time when the Beetlejuice brand has returned to renewed prominence. Alongside the musical’s move into the West End, the franchise recently expanded with the release of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, a sequel film that brought back original stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara, while adding new cast members including Jenna Ortega and Willem Dafoe. That film helped reintroduce the property to a new generation and further reinforced the enduring appeal of Burton’s strange and playful supernatural world.
The West End production is now scheduled to run through to April 17, 2027, giving London audiences an extended opportunity to see the show. Tickets are already on sale through major ticketing outlets, signalling strong confidence in the musical’s commercial prospects.
With David Fynn now confirmed in the title role, Beetlejuice The Musical has taken a major step towards its West End debut. As the production prepares to bring its ghosts, gags and gothic spectacle to the Prince Edward Theatre, London theatregoers can expect a show that embraces the weird, the wicked and the wonderfully theatrical.
