The forthcoming Broadway rejuvenation of The Wiz will feature Nichelle Lewis in the pivotal role of Dorothy, heralding her inaugural appearance on the esteemed Broadway stage.

Lewis has graced stages nationwide, showcasing her talents in productions such as Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Bare: A Pop Opera, and Labelless. Additionally, she showcased her abilities on the television sensation American Idol during 2022, advancing as far as the celebrated Hollywood Week.

Joining her in The Wiz ensemble are luminaries such as Deborah Cox, who will play Glinda; Melody A. Betts, portraying Aunt Em/Evillene; Wayne Brady as the title character, The Wiz; and Kyle Ramar Freeman, Phillip Johnson Richardson, and Avery Wilson bringing to life the roles of the Lion, the Tinman, and the Scarecrow, respectively. The meticulous casting process has been spearheaded by Tara Rubin Casting.

In further exciting developments, producers Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker have come aboard to fortify the revival’s production team.

The Wiz is a reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s classic “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Set in a fantastical version of urban America, the story follows Dorothy, a young girl who finds herself whisked away to a magical land. Throughout her journey to find The Wiz and request a way home, she befriends a Scarecrow, a Tinman, and a Cowardly Lion. Together, they navigate the challenges posed by this unique world, all while exploring themes of self-discovery, friendship, and empowerment. This soulful musical rendition captivates with its rich score and vibrant characters.
