Clueless Musical Premieres in the West End, Promising a Fresh Take on a Cult Classic

London, UK – The West End is abuzz as the much-anticipated Clueless musical makes its debut at the Trafalgar Theatre. Based on the iconic 1995 film starring Alicia Silverstone—and inspired by Jane Austen’s classic novel Emma—the show reimagines the story of Cher Horowitz, the ultra-popular student at Beverley Hills High, who delights in matchmaking and meddling in her classmates’ lives.

Developed by Amy Heckerling, the writer and director of the original film, the musical features a completely new score by multi-platinum singer-songwriter KT Tunstall, known for hits such as “Suddenly I See” and “Black Horse and The Cherry Tree.” Adding to the creative brilliance is lyricist Glenn Slater, a Grammy Award winner celebrated for his work on Sister Act and Tangled. Under the dynamic direction of Rachel Kavanaugh and with energetic choreography by Kelly Devine, Clueless is set to captivate audiences with its blend of nostalgia and modern flair.

Leading the West End production is Emma Flynn, who takes on the role of Cher Horowitz. Flynn is joined by Keelan McAuley as Josh, providing a fresh and engaging chemistry that promises to drive the story forward. The cast also features Chyna-Rose Frederick as Dionne, Romona Lewis-Malley as Tai, and Rabi Kondé as Murray, among others. A talented ensemble—including Isaac J Lewis (Christian), Blake Jordan (Travis), Max Mirza (Elton), and a host of supporting performers—brings the vibrant world of Beverly Hills High to life on stage.

A previous version of Clueless, which incorporated jukebox tunes, played off-Broadway in 2018, but this rendition marks a bold reinvention. A try-out run at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley helped fine-tune the production, setting the stage for its West End success. With bookings available until June 2025, theatre enthusiasts have plenty of opportunities to experience this inventive musical.

Behind the scenes, the production boasts an impressive creative team. Music supervision and arrangements are led by Carmel Dean, while scenic design is crafted by Mikiko Suzuki MacAdams. Tony Award-winning costume designer Paloma Young ensures every character is impeccably styled, with lighting by Ben Cracknell and sound by Rob Bettle and Sam Clarkson for Sound Quiet Time enhancing the overall atmosphere. Additional contributions include wigs, hair and make-up design by Sam Cox, orchestrations by Simon Hale, and casting by Olivia Laydon for Jill Green Casting.

Clueless promises to deliver a unique theatrical experience that melds the familiar charm of the beloved film with the innovative energy of a contemporary musical. With its star-studded creative team and talented cast, the production is already generating significant buzz—making it a must-see for both long-time fans and newcomers alike.

Tickets are on sale now as the West End welcomes a reimagined Clueless to the stage—an event that’s set to leave audiences “totally buggin’!”
