The highly anticipated West End premiere of Clueless has revealed its complete casting lineup. Based on Jane Austen’s beloved novel Emma and adapted from the iconic 1995 film starring Alicia Silverstone, this new stage production follows Cher Horowitz, the queen bee of Beverly Hills High, as she meddles in her classmates’ lives with charming (and sometimes chaotic) results.
The production features a stellar creative team bringing this cult classic to life. The book is written by Amy Heckerling, the creative force behind the original Clueless film. The score is composed by KT Tunstall, a multi-platinum singer-songwriter celebrated for hits like Suddenly I See and Black Horse and The Cherry Tree. Lyrics come from Grammy Award-winning Glenn Slater, known for his work on Sister Act and Tangled. Direction is handled by Rachel Kavanaugh, whose previous credits include Half a Sixpence, with choreography by Kelly Devine, celebrated for her work on Come From Away.
Leading the cast as Cher is Emma Flynn, joined by Keelan McAuley as Josh. The principal cast also includes Chyna–Rose Frederick as Dionne, Romona Lewis–Malley as Tai, Rabi Kondé as Murray, Isaac J b as Christian, Blake Jordan as Travis, Max Mirza as Elton, Ryan O’Donnell as Mel/Mr. Hall/Driving Instructor, Imelda Warren–Green as Miss G/Ms. S/Lucy/Heather, and Emily Florence as Amber. The ensemble features Sophie Elmes, Jacob Fisher, Aoife Kenny, Josh Latunji, James Lim, Ernest Stroud, and Grace Eleanor Thomas, with swings Dylan Gordon–Jones, Lucas Lluna, Lucy Rice, and Rachel Seirian completing the team.
This version of Clueless is entirely new, departing from the jukebox format used in its 2018 off-Broadway production. Following a successful try-out run at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley last year, this revamped musical combines a fresh narrative with an original score to reimagine the story for the stage.
The design and production team includes Carmel Dean overseeing music supervision and arrangements, Mikiko Suzuki MacAdams as scenic designer, and Paloma Young, a Tony Award winner, handling costume design. Ben Cracknell is the lighting designer, with sound design by Rob Bettle and Sam Clarkson for Sound Quiet Time. Wigs, hair, and make-up are designed by Sam Cox, while orchestrations are provided by Simon Hale. Casting is directed by Olivia Laydon for Jill Green Casting.
With its blend of nostalgia, humor, and a modern musical flair, Clueless is set to be a standout addition to the West End. Fans of the film and newcomers alike can look forward to seeing this beloved story brought to life on stage. Don’t miss your chance to see Cher and her friends in this fabulous new production!
