Cats to Prowl Again in London with 2026 Open-Air Revival

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s beloved musical Cats is set to return to London in a dazzling new open-air revival next summer at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, before embarking on a UK tour. The production will run from 25 July to 12 September 2026, with an official press night scheduled for 6 August.

The musical, based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, first premiered in London’s West End in 1981 and on Broadway the following year, becoming one of the longest-running shows in history. Known for its iconic score, including the hit song Memory, the story follows the Jellicle Cats as they gather under the moonlight for the mystical Jellicle Ball to choose which cat will ascend to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn.

This new production will be directed and choreographed by Drew McOnie, who previously appeared in Cats as a performer before becoming one of the UK’s most dynamic directors. McOnie described the project as a “transformative full-circle moment,” expressing excitement to reimagine the show for a new generation within Regent’s Park’s unique outdoor setting.

Following its London engagement, the production will head out on tour in partnership with acclaimed producer Michael Harrison, bringing the world of the Jellicle Cats to audiences across the country.

Andrew Lloyd Webber praised McOnie’s appointment, calling him the perfect choice to reinvigorate the musical’s timeless energy for a modern audience.

Tickets for Cats at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre go on sale to members on 23 October, and to the general public on 28 October. The theatre’s full 2026 season will be announced soon, with Cats already positioned as one of the most anticipated revivals of the year.

It seems that, once again, the Jellicle Cats are ready to dance by the light of the moon.
